Is that a "handicap" for a virtual piano? One thing worries me, I read recently that the Vintage D was recorded with only one microphone position. The Grandeur sounds a bit muffled, some notes tend to drown somehow, in my opinion, and the same goes for the Maverick and the Gentleman. Listening to demos, I like the sound of Vintage D better. I'm wondering if the Galaxy Vintage D is the safest one to go after. Then they mention the Grandeur not responding normally to pedalling, maybe the same problem mentioned by MacMacMac. They run the pianos through various tests, and claim that transitions between velocities layers are not smooth, can be heard, if I don't misunderstand anything. Running the following review through Google translation, reveals that they say the collection is far below the other pianos of Native Instruments in quality. The French site only gives it 3,5 stars. I was considering the Grandeur not so long ago, and possibly the Definitive Piano Collection, three piano libraries for 200 Euros. If you have a MIDI file you'd like to see rendered, let me know! Overall, considering the price point, I'd say it's a very good product but it's applications are a bit restricted (when compared to the Vintage D, that is). That arguably removes some dynamics, but, as I said, it's nothing too problematic. The Galaxy has a few issues on certain keys, nothing too problematic, but you end up noticing the inconsistency (for example, the G4 sounds just a bit more aggressive than any other keys on the same velocities), while the Grandeur is more even in that regard. In terms of dynamics, they're both equally as good. It's certainly more versatile and arguably easier to fine tune to your exact sound system. However, this means that getting a live piano sound (especially if you just want to plug it in and play) requires a bit more effort through the use of plugins. When compared to the Galaxy Vintage D, the Galaxy is a bit drier, the sound is more pure so to speak.

It actually sounds great on headphones, perhaps precisely because of that "distant" sound.

It's not a bad thing by any means, but I can see it being a problem if you deviate a bit from the standard "hall concert piano" sound or on certain sound systems.

By concert piano I mean that, even if you're not using any reverb, the sound sounds a bit distant. I haven't tried the Ivory 2 nor the Ravenscroft, so I can't really compare it to them.Įssentially, The Grandeur has a really nice concert piano type of sound out of the box. I have The Grandeur as well as the Vintage D.
